Changchun Culture Square (Wenhua Guangchang)
The Culture Square, whose original name is Dizhigong Square, is situated in central Changchun. Covering an area of 0.205 square kilometers, it was regarded as the national square during the Manchukuo period (1932-1945).At the center of the square is the sculpture of Sun Bird. The outdoor music altar is situated on the north side. At the north tip is the main building of the square.
Many people fly kites from this square, while others play traditional Chinese instruments or just sit and relax. More formal performances are sometimes held on a temporary stage set up near the high school. For casual visitors to Changchun, this is probably a good place to visit by taxi. Crossing the street to get to this location is a skill and best done with locals.(The Information Office of the People’s Government of Jilin Province)
